Why You Shouldn’t Ever Touch a
When you find yourself in a new area, even if it’s just outside your hometown, there’s a chance you’ll come across cultures and customs you’ve never heard of before.
There’s a custom followed by many rural Americans that city folks might not know about. Before you learn what it means, here’s some advice: don’t mess with boots on fences.
On the fences that border fields of crops or grasslands, you might notice a cowboy boot hanging upside down on a post! It looks odd but did you know it has more meaning?
It’s best to leave these boots alone since they were placed there for a reason.
Why? Ranchers sometimes do this to remember their favorite horse that has died! They may also hang up a pair of boots off the fence too.
Just like we feel about our pets ranchers can form strong bonds with their horses!
Any horse owner would probably agree; they are as much loved family members as people feel about their dogs or cats which means when they pass away it’s really hard.
So some folks will choose to give up one or two boots to honor them!
Sometimes a boot on the fence stands for someone else too often referring to an old saying “a pair of boots for every hand.”
So if you’re ever out and see one in nature it’s best just to leave it be!
While it could be innocent there is also likelyhood it’s actually honoring someone which means it should be respected and left alone.
