Renewed Celebration of the Paschal Mystery
This year, we are given a special time to prepare our hearts to celebrate Jesus’ death and resurrection—the foundation of our Christian life. We must keep returning to this mystery because “it will continue to grow within us to the extent that we open ourselves to its spiritual power.” Christian joy comes from embracing the Good News that Jesus’ love invites “a relationship of openness and fruitful dialogue.” Life is not just ours to do as we please; it is a gift from God, who desires to give us abundant life.
Embracing Mercy Through Prayer
Lent invites us to focus on Christ’s sacrifice: “Keep your gaze fixed on the outstretched arms of Christ crucified, let yourself be saved again and again.” Jesus’ Passion is not just history—it is alive through the Holy Spirit, allowing us to encounter Him in those who suffer. Prayer is essential during Lent, not as a duty but as “an expression of our need to respond to the love of God that always precedes and sustains us.” True prayer softens our hearts and leads us to conversion.
God’s Persistent Desire for Dialogue
God continually offers us chances to convert and deepen our relationship with Him. Despite the presence of evil, this opportunity shows God’s “unwavering will not to interrupt his saving dialogue with us.” Jesus, who “knew no sin but for our sake became sin,” reveals God’s love, even for His enemies. This dialogue is genuine, unlike empty talk driven by curiosity or superficiality.
Sharing the Wealth of Mercy
Centering our lives on the Paschal Mystery means recognizing Christ’s wounds in the suffering around us—from victims of violence and injustice to environmental crises. Lent calls us to charity, which “makes us more human,” urging us to share our goods with those in need and rethink economic systems.
