Malcolm-Jamal Warner Dies at 54 in Drowning Accident

Actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner, best known as Theo Huxtable from The Cosby Show, has died at the age of 54. The Daily Mail confirmed his passing after Costa Rican officials reported he drowned while swimming off Cocles Beach in the Limon province on Sunday.

Authorities told ABC News that Warner was “pulled under by a strong current,” and the official cause of death was asphyxia.

The Cleveland Clinic explains, “Asphyxiation is when you don’t get enough oxygen in your body,” often caused by “drowning, allergic reactions, and airway blockages.”

Some coastal areas in Costa Rica are known for unpredictable and hazardous waters, and experts warn swimmers to exercise caution.

A Lasting Legacy in Television

Warner, born on August 18, 1970, in Jersey City, New Jersey, rose to fame as a teen when he starred on The Cosby Show. According to the Daily Mail, “Cosby personally selected Warner to play his son.” His performance earned him an Emmy nomination.

After The Cosby Show ended in 1992, he continued working in television, starring in Malcolm & Eddie, Reed Between the Lines, and appearing in Jeremiah, Sons of Anarchy, The Resident, and 9-1-1. He also directed TV episodes and music videos.
