When he tried to wake his wife, Jill, she didn’t respond. “I went to wake Jill up, which is a miracle in itself as I never, ever, do that on Saturday mornings,” Ryan later said. Alarmed, he called emergency services and performed CPR. Jill was rushed to the hospital, where doctors diagnosed her with cardiac arrest and put her in a coma.

A Desperate Wait

As Jill remained unconscious, Ryan waited anxiously outside the ER. Doctors warned him, “pray for your wife,” signaling how serious the situation was. Jill’s cousin visited with a Bible and read to her for an hour, leaving it with Ryan. He began reading Bible passages aloud daily, hoping she would wake up. Despite this, doctors told Ryan there was no improvement and suggested ending life support.

The Unexpected Miracle

After 14 days, Ryan made the heartbreaking decision to remove Jill from life support. About five hours later, Jill started moving and mumbling. Ryan remembers, “The nurse came out and said, ‘I think you need to come in, she’s talking.’” He was stunned when Jill’s first words were, “Get me out of here. I want to go home.” She even answered mental math questions correctly and asked to go to her favorite restaurant. Ryan believes it was “God. Divine intervention. I honestly feel that way.”
