Fox News Host Leads Prayer On-Air, Sparks Online Debate
In an unusual move for cable news, Fox News host Pete Hegseth led a Christian prayer live on-air during a recent broadcast of Fox & Friends Weekend. The moment, sponsored by the Hallow Bible app, stirred up both praise and backlash online.
“Bow Your Head” – Hegseth Reads Lenten Prayer
As the segment began, Hegseth joked, “This is a transition for transitions,” before inviting viewers to close their eyes and bow their heads. Co-hosts Rachel Campos-Duffy and Will Cain joined in as he read aloud:
“Jesus, today we begin the holy period of passion tide… help us understand the mystery of your sacrifice and surrender.”
He thanked Jesus for His “selfless love on the cross” and closed by thanking Hallow for the partnership. Campos-Duffy responded with, “Amen.”
Faith on Fox: Not a First
This isn’t the first time Fox News has featured religion on-air. On Ash Wednesday, actor Mark Wahlberg joined a segment promoting Hallow. Host Kayleigh McEnany also recently praised House Speaker Mike Johnson’s faith, saying, “I really believe he thinks God is leading the way.” Co-host Ainsley Earhardt added, “Our country really needs some guidance from God right now.”
Mixed Reactions Online
The prayer sparked heated online reactions. Some critics accused Fox of hypocrisy:
“It’s a political stunt… Fox News spreads falsehoods.”
Others were harsher, calling the prayer “a joke” and “about as religious as a rock.”
However, many viewers expressed support, saying it was refreshing to see faith represented on national television.
