Nobel Committee Explains Why Trump Didn’t Win the Peace Prize
Machado Honored for Her Fight for Democracy
The 2025 Nobel Peace Prize went to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado for
her “tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela.”
Despite being banned from office and facing threats, Machado has continued to push for free elections against President Nicolás Maduro’s regime.
Trump’s Reaction and Claims
President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly said he “deserved” the Nobel Peace Prize, was passed over once again.
“They will never give me a Nobel Peace Prize.
I deserve it, but they will never give it to me,” he said earlier this year. Trump has often highlighted his diplomatic record, claiming, “I’ve done six wars, I’ve ended six wars.”
Committee’s Explanation
Nobel Peace Committee chairman Jørgen Watne Frydnes stated, “We base our decision only on the work and the will of Alfred Nobel.” The committee emphasized that democracy is “a precondition for lasting peace” — the core reason behind Machado’s selection.
