Stephen A. Smith Claims The Minnesota ICE

Legal Justification Claimed

ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith weighed in on the fatal shooting of

Renee Nicole Good, 37, by an ICE agent in Minneapolis, calling the officer’s actions “completely justified” from a legal standpoint.

Good was shot three times in the face after attempting to drive her SUV away from officers.

Smith said, “I saw the video on numerous occasions… don’t expect him to be prosecuted. He was completely justified.”

Criticism of the Method

While supporting the legal view, Smith questioned the officer’s approach:

“From a humanitarian perspective, however, why did you have to do that?

If you could move out of the way, that means you could have shot the tires.” He noted, “She wrongfully tried to drive off… As a result, she lost her life.”

ICE and Federal Response

ICE claimed Good intentionally drove toward officers, though witnesses and Mayor Jacob Frey disputed this.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem defended the officer:

“Our officer followed his training and did exactly what he’s been taught to do in that situation.”

Smith: Alternatives Were Possible

Smith stressed the death could have been avoided: “You could have arrested her.

You could have spared the woman’s life… Even though the law might support him, humanity comes into question.”

He concluded, “In this case, it was totally unnecessary.”
