First Democrat Casualty Of Epstein Fallo
Former Harvard president and prominent Democratic economist Larry Summers said
he will scale back public engagements after Congress released seven years of emails showing he remained in contact with Jeffrey Epstein long after Epstein’s 2008 conviction.
The emails, disclosed by the House Oversight Committee,
show Summers communicating with Epstein until July 5, 2019, one day before Epstein’s arrest on federal sex-trafficking charges.
The correspondence sparked criticism because it included personal exchanges, including Epstein referring to himself as Summers’ “wing man.”
Summers acknowledged the fallout, expressing shame and taking responsibility for what he called “misguided” decisions.
While he will step back from public commentary, Summers plans to keep his academic and institutional roles at Harvard, the Center for American Progress, Bloomberg, and OpenAI.
Separately, Rep. Jamie Raskin drew criticism for releasing prison emails written by Ghislaine Maxwell, a move her lawyer called a serious abuse of power.
