Billie Eilish Sells $13M Oklahoma Estate
Pop star Billie Eilish has reportedly sold her $13 million Oklahoma estate to a
local Indigenous tribal trust for just $1 million, reframing celebrity “downsizing”
as an act of restitution. The article says Eilish acknowledged the land’s history,
stating, “I admit it’s on stolen land,” and explained that keeping the
profit “felt like a lie I couldn’t keep telling.”
The sale followed backlash after her Grammy speech supporting Indigenous rights,
when critics accused her of hypocrisy over owning large tracts of land.
Instead of issuing a traditional apology, Eilish sold the property at a steep discount,
effectively returning $12 million in value. Tribal representatives called the move
meaningful, saying, “This isn’t just about a house; it’s about the 36 acres it sits on.
It’s about the soil.”

While activists praised the decision, critics labeled it “performative extremism” and
questioned its implications for property rights. Eilish responded bluntly:
“If you can’t afford to give it back, at least stop acting
like you’re the one who discovered it.”
