A lot of people still believe that
What Are the Spikes on Motorcycle Tires?
The small spikes you see on motorcycle tires, known as vent spews, result from the tire manufacturing process. Despite their appearance, these spikes do not affect the tire’s performance.
The Role of Vent Spews
During manufacturing, tire molds include tiny vents designed to release trapped air. These vents prevent air bubbles from forming inside the tire, ensuring a smooth, uniform finish. As air escapes, some melted rubber also seeps through these vents, creating the small spikes known as vent spews.
Why They Don’t Matter
Although vent spews are a visible part of the tire, they have no impact on how the tire functions. They’re simply a by-product of the manufacturing process, serving no practical purpose once the tire is in use.
