At My Husband’s Corporate Party, Our
A Perfect Marriage Shattered
I believed my husband Mark and I would be together forever, but everything changed at his promotion party.
Married for seven years, we seemed like the perfect couple — laughing together, finishing each other’s sentences, and sharing dreams. After years of trying, our daughter Sophie was a miracle who brought us joy. Life felt good, especially with Mark’s recent success.
The Shocking Discovery
At the party, Sophie tugged my sleeve and said, “Mommy, look!
That’s the lady with the worms!” She explained, “I saw them on her bed,” pointing to Tina, a woman from Mark’s office who always seemed too close to him. Sophie whispered, “Daddy said not to tell anyone about the worms. Mommy would be upset.” My heart sank.
The Truth Comes Out
When I confronted Mark, he lied. He said, “They were curlers… I told her they were worms so she’d drop it.”
But his nervousness told me otherwise. Later, I met Tina, who calmly admitted, “He said it wouldn’t take long. That once you left, we could stop sneaking around.” I told her, “He’s all yours.” I felt “not heartbroken. Not furious. Just done.”
Moving On and Healing
I quietly filed for separation and took control to protect Sophie and myself. Mark moved in with Tina but soon seemed unhappy. Meanwhile, I healed — crying, joining Pilates, and painting Sophie’s room. When Sophie once asked why Daddy doesn’t live with us, I said simply, “Because he lied about the worms.” She nodded seriously, “Lying is bad.” Then she hugged me and said, “I’m glad we have no worms.” I laughed, “Me too, baby. Me too.”
