Congress Preparing To Debate Crim

Lawmakers are preparing for a new crime bill as President Donald Trump plans to send Congress a proposal focused on

reducing crime in Washington, D.C. Trump said he wants the district to become a “beacon” for other cities and claimed,

“We’re going to need a crime bill… and it’s going to pertain initially to D.C.”

He added that the plan would request “a relatively small amount of money” to repair streets and improve conditions.

Sen. Lindsey Graham said he has spoken with Trump, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and White House staff about making the city safer.

Bondi stated that the Justice Department will work with local and federal agencies “to address the scourge of violent crime in Washington, D.C.”

Graham said he and Sen. Katie Britt will help advance the “D.C. Security Fund” through Congress.

However, Democrats are unlikely to support extending Trump’s temporary authority over the city’s police force.
