Elon Musk’s final message after resigning from DOGE
Elon Musk Quits Trump Admin Over Spending Bill
In a surprise move, Elon Musk stepped down early from his short-term government role after criticizing President Trump’s massive new spending plan. Musk had been serving as a Special Government Employee, co-leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), focused on cutting federal waste. Though he was scheduled to leave May 28, he quit three days early after seeing the bill.
“I think a bill can be big or it can be beautiful… but I don’t know if it can be both,” Musk told CBS.
DOGE and the Breaking Point
Alongside entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, Musk launched DOGE to slash bureaucracy and reduce government costs. Their goals included cutting federal jobs, ending DEI programs, and even shutting down the Department of Education by 2026.
Musk saw Trump’s bill—nicknamed the “Big, Beautiful Bill”—as a betrayal of that mission. It includes trillions in tax breaks, more defense spending, and a “Golden Dome” missile system.
“Frankly, it increases the budget deficit, not decreases it,” Musk said.
A Sudden Exit
The White House reportedly ended Musk’s role faster after his public criticism. While Trump hasn’t commented directly, he posted a vague meme on Truth Social that hinted at divine purpose and unstoppable plans.
Musk posted on X:
“As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end… the @DOGE mission will only grow stronger.”
Future of DOGE Uncertain
Musk’s departure raises doubts about DOGE’s future. With its most public leader gone and its goals clashing with Trump’s spending, the initiative may stall.
Still, Musk insists the mission isn’t over:
“It’s not about a title. It’s about changing the culture of waste.”
