Elon Musk’s final message after resigning from DOGE
Elon Musk Quits Trump Admin Role Early, Slams Spending Bill
Elon Musk has abruptly stepped down from his temporary government advisory role, criticizing President Trump’s latest spending bill just days before his scheduled exit. In a CBS interview, Musk said, “I think a bill can be big or it can be beautiful… but I don’t know if it can be both.”
DOGE’s Mission and Musk’s Exit
Musk had been co-leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) with entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. The mission was to cut federal waste, dismantle bureaucracy, and reduce costs. Though the role was always meant to end on May 28, Musk left three days early in protest. “Frankly, it increases the budget deficit, not decreases it, and undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing,” he said of the bill.
The “Big, Beautiful Bill”
Trump’s so-called “Big, Beautiful Bill” includes huge increases in defense spending, corporate tax breaks, and funding for a new missile defense system. Critics say it could add up to $600 billion to the national deficit in the next year, contradicting DOGE’s stated goals. The bill passed the House and awaits Senate approval.
Fallout and Future of DOGE
The White House reportedly pushed Musk out early after his public comments. While Trump hasn’t responded directly, he posted a vague meme on Truth Social, adding to speculation. With Musk gone, the future of DOGE—planned to shut down by July 4, 2026—is uncertain. Musk wrote on X, “It’s not about a title. It’s about changing the culture of waste.”
The split signals a deeper divide between Musk and Trump as debates over federal spending continue.
