girl left with horrific burns on her neck
A Mother’s Warning After Her Daughter Is Burned by Cell Phone Charger
Most parents would agree that keeping their children safe becomes their top priority from the moment they’re born. But even the most careful precautions can’t always prevent unexpected accidents.
In 2016, Jackie Fedro experienced every parent’s nightmare when her 13-year-old daughter, Gabbie, was seriously injured in a freak incident involving her new cellphone. \
“One of the reasons we finally gave in and bought her a cell phone is so we can keep in touch with her more with her crazy practice schedule,” Jackie told BuzzFeed.
Just days after receiving the LG d500 as a Christmas gift, Gabbie was using the phone while it was plugged in. Suddenly, Jackie heard her scream. “She came running downstairs… grabbing her neck,” she recalled. “She was in so much pain she was screaming hysterically.”
Gabbie had been shocked while using the phone. The electric current traveled from the charger through the device and into the metal necklace she was wearing, causing second-degree burns around her neck. “It’s the worst feeling in the world as a mother to watch your child scream in pain and have no idea how to help her,” Jackie said.
Jackie emphasized that many parents aren’t aware of such risks. “With so many kids using phones now days, parents need to be warned about the harm that they can cause.”
This frightening event left Gabbie with permanent scarring and Jackie with a mission: to alert other families to a little-known but dangerous possibility of injury from common electronics.
