Global Alarm As US Bombs Iranian Nuclear
U.S. Airstrikes Target Iran’s Nuclear Sites
On June 21, President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. launched airstrikes on three major Iranian nuclear sites—Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan. In a national address, Trump stated, “Our objective was the destruction of Iran’s nuclear enrichment capacity and a stop to the nuclear threat posed by the world’s number one state sponsor of terror.” He declared the operation “a spectacular military success” and warned, “Future attacks will be far greater and a lot easier” if Iran does not pursue peace.
Iran Responds with Fury
Iranian officials strongly condemned the strikes. Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi warned on Twitter, “The events this morning are outrageous and will have everlasting consequences.” He called the attacks “extremely dangerous, lawless and criminal behavior,” urging the global community to respond.
International Oversight and Radiation Report
Despite Trump’s claims of complete destruction, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported “no increase in off-site radiation levels,” suggesting the impact may have been less severe. The IAEA stated it will “provide further assessments on the situation in Iran as more information becomes available.”
Iran’s Nuclear Capability Raises Alarms
Though Iran denies pursuing nuclear weapons, experts say it is close. The Institute for Science and International Security reported that Iran could produce enough weapons-grade uranium for a nuclear bomb in “as little as two to three days.” It warned that Iran might generate material for 22 nuclear weapons within five months, if enrichment continues unchecked.
