If you find ticks inside your home

The writer says they’re usually tolerant of all creatures, even spiders and snakes,

but ticks are the exception. Unlike other insects, ticks aren’t just unpleasant—

they can be dangerous because they spread illnesses like Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever.

Depending on your location, the season, and whether you have pets, you might encounter them indoors.

If you do find a tick at home, first identify the type and keep children and pets away from the area.

Protect yourself by wearing gloves and long sleeves so the tick can’t latch onto your skin.

Wash any clothing or bedding the tick touched using high heat,

and vacuum the area carefully, especially corners and crevices.

To remove a tick, use fine-tipped tweezers to grasp it close to the skin and pull upward slowly,

avoiding twisting so the head doesn’t break off.
