Jimmy Carter breaks silence
Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter has passed away at the age of 96, following a six-month battle with dementia, according to a statement from the Carter Center. She served as First Lady alongside her husband, former President Jimmy Carter, from 1977 to 1981 and continued her humanitarian work through the Carter Center.
Both Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter had experienced declining health in the past year. Jimmy entered hospice care in February, declining further medical intervention for various health issues. Last week, Rosalynn also entered hospice care due to her dementia diagnosis.
Jimmy Carter praised Rosalynn as his “equal partner” and d.lcredited her with offering wise guidance and encouragement throughout their lives. The couple, married since 1946, had a strong partnership highlighted by Rosalynn’s active involvement in Jimmy’s political career and personal life.
Rosalynn passed away less than 48 hours after returning to their hometown in Plains, Georgia, where their long and intertwined journey, marked by mutual support and shared accomplishments, came to a poignant close.
