Teen Charged in Frisco Track Meet Murder Hires New Attorney
Tragic Incident:
Seventeen-year-old Karmelo Anthony has been charged with the murder of
high school athlete Austin Metcalf during a track meet at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco,
Texas, on April 2. Authorities say Anthony stabbed Metcalf in the
heart after an argument over sitting in the wrong team area. Metcalf died in his twin brother’s arms.
Legal Update:
Anthony, a Centennial High School student, remains in Collin County Jail on a $1 million bond.
His family has now retained Dallas defense attorney Mike Howard to lead his case, replacing former lawyers Billy Clark and Kim T. Cole.
Support and Statement:
The Next Generation Action Network confirmed the legal change, saying, “Karmelo deserves what every citizen deserves:
fair treatment and full rights under the law.” A fundraiser for Anthony’s family has raised over $400,000.
Farewell to Austin:
A private funeral for Metcalf was held Saturday at Hope Fellowship Frisco East Church.
