My future in-laws don’t know I own the home
The Wedding Drama
Ellen and David were thrilled about their daughter Lisa’s upcoming wedding. Lisa, a successful medical graduate, was marrying her soulmate, Ric. As a reward for her hard work, Ellen and David bought Lisa a small house. Life seemed perfect until Lisa called one evening with an unexpected request: Ric was moving in with her. Despite some initial hesitation, Ellen and David agreed, understanding that the couple would soon be married.
Family Dinner Gone Wrong
Before diving into wedding plans, Lisa and Ric organized a family dinner to introduce their families. Ellen and David were eager to meet Ric’s parents. However, the evening took an unexpected turn. After chatting for a while, David and their younger daughter Leah returned from inside, visibly upset. They quickly left, and once in the car, David revealed overhearing Ric’s parents talking about not inviting Ellen and David to the wedding, but expecting them to pay for it. Ellen was shocked and confused—why would Ric’s parents exclude them from their daughter’s wedding?
Confrontation
The next day, Ellen went to Lisa’s house and found Ric’s parents there. When Ric’s mother answered the door, she accused Ellen of being too influential in Lisa’s life. She revealed that Ric’s parents had moved in with the couple and that, while Ellen and David wouldn’t be invited to the wedding, they’d be expected to foot the bill. Heartbroken, Ellen called Lisa, who said she would respect her in-laws’ decision.
Drastic Action
Since the house was still in Ellen’s name, she took drastic action. Ellen demanded Ric’s parents leave within 10 days. When they refused, she sold the house. “I just taught our future in-laws a lesson in boundaries,” Ellen wrote. Lisa eventually moved into a small apartment, and despite staying with Ric, the wedding has yet to happen.
