Tragic Crash After Takeoff

A Boeing 787 Dreamliner, Flight AI171 from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, crashed shortly after takeoff with 242 people onboard. The plane lost contact within a minute of leaving Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at 10:08 AM, plunging into a residential building housing doctors.

Air India confirmed the passengers included 169 Indian, 53 British, 7 Portuguese, and 1 Canadian national. The crash left behind a field of wreckage and thick black smoke over Ahmedabad.

One Survivor Found

Amid the devastation, one man miraculously survived. Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik stated: “One survivor has been found in the hospital and is under treatment. Cannot say anything about the number of deaths yet.”

The survivor, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a British citizen living in London for 20 years, described the horrifying moment: “Thirty seconds after take-off, there was a loud noise and then the plane crashed. It all happened so quickly.”

He added, “When I got up, there were bodies all around me. I was scared. I stood up and ran… Someone grabbed hold of me and put me in an ambulance and brought me to the hospital.” Ramesh suffered injuries to his chest, eyes, and feet but is stable.

Global Reaction

World leaders expressed deep sorrow. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “The tragedy in Ahmedabad has stunned and saddened us… My thoughts are with everyone affected by it.” UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the event “devastating,” adding, “My thoughts are with the passengers and their families at this deeply distressing time.”

As rescue teams work through the wreckage and families await updates, the survival of one passenger brings a faint glimmer of hope amid overwhelming loss.
