“My aunt had a beard, but she shaved it off. It’s genetic to us. When my mother noticed the first hairs on my face, she started shaving them. She was afraid of prejudice, that people would laugh at me,” said Maria from Brazil.

Maria is married to Tinho Silva and they have been together for 17 years. The decision to grow a beard almost led to a divorce, but eventually he accepted her decision.
