Trump’s Night at the Kennedy Center: Cheers, Boos, and Debate
On June 11, President Donald Trump and First Lady
Melania Trump attended Les Misérables at the Kennedy Center—his first visit since reshaping its leadership.
The audience’s reaction was split between applause and boos as the couple entered.
“I’ve seen it many times, it’s one of my favorites,” Trump said of the show.
During intermission, shouts and chants of “U.S.A.” mixed with jeers.
Reports said some cast members skipped the performance, while drag performers filled donated seats—a contrast to Trump’s past vow:
“NO MORE DRAG SHOWS, OR OTHER ANTI-AMERICAN PROPAGANDA.”
The night drew attention for its timing: Les Mis, about rebellion and justice,
ran just as the administration faced criticism for deploying federal forces in protests.
“We’re going to make it incredible… We raised a lot tonight,” Trump later said.
For supporters, it was celebration; for critics, irony. Either way, the show sparked plenty of drama.
