Trump Moves to Reshape Immigration

Trump Administration Dismisses Dozens of Immigration Judges

About fifty immigration judges have been

dismissed under President Donald Trump in one

of the most significant shake-ups of the court system in decades.

The firings, delivered in a three-line email, come amid a backlog of more than three million cases.

Supporters and Critics Clash
Trump, fulfilling his pledge to “end the judicial swamp,” argued judges

had acted like “policy makers instead of interpreters of the law.”

A DHS official said: “That era is over.”

Judges Speak Out
Former Judge Jennifer Peyton said, “I had no disciplinary record…

I was blindsided.” Another, Carla Espinoza, alleged discrimination after releasing a

detainee flagged by Homeland Security. Sen. Dick Durbin condemned the move as an “abuse of power.”

Wider Impact
Unions and activists warn the purge threatens judicial independence and fair hearings.

Lawsuits are being prepared, but Trump insists: “If you break our laws and come here illegally… the game is over.”
