Recently, a woman was left stunned when a fake coworker reported her absence at work, leading to a visit from the police.
The incident, which unfolded at her doorstep, left her shaken and questioning the motives behind this unsettling act.
TikToker Sheryl, known as @_sherylll, took to social media to share her harrowing experience.
She recounted how two police officers and a social worker showed up at her door for a wellness check, claiming that they had been called due to her failure to show up at work.
However, there was one glaring issue with this situation: Sheryl worked from home.
Even though she didn’t physically go to the office, she reassured them that she actively participated in Zoom meetings and regularly communicated with her coworkers.
She believed that her colleagues would have been aware of her well-being since they interacted with her on a daily basis.
A wellness check is typically requested by concerned friends or family members when they haven’t heard from someone and fear for their welfare.
In Sheryl’s case, it became increasingly disturbing as she discovered that the person who had called in the wellness check was not even an employee at her company.
To verify this, she searched the employee directory but found no trace of the individual’s name.
Fortunately, the police, accompanied by a social worker, eventually left after realizing that Sheryl was indeed safe and sound.
Numerous concerned theories were posed by social media users.
Many people who viewed her video expressed their worry and advised her to report the incident to her HR department, suspecting the possibility of stalking or a data breach.

Sheryl finally found the truth to clarify this strange incident.
In a follow-up video, Sheryl shared her subsequent actions, explaining that she contacted the police herself to address the matter.
While she confirmed that the officers who visited her were genuine, she dismissed the suggestion that someone she knew had made the report under a fake name.
After much research, Sheryl stumbled upon another individual in her neighborhood with the same first and last name.
This coincidence could potentially explain the baffling incident, suggesting a case of mistaken identity.
